Blue Mountains Wedding Celebrant | Margaret Janz
Relaxed, personal Blue Mountains weddings
There is something special about getting married in the Blue Mountains. The forests, sandstone cliffs, open valleys and changing mountain light create a beautiful setting for a wedding. But you don’t need a large or elaborate celebration to make the most of it. I’m Margaret Janz, a Randwick-based Blue Mountains wedding celebrant, and I love travelling from Sydney to the mountains to conduct weddings and intimate ceremonies. Whether you’re planning an elopement for two, a small gathering with family, or a larger celebration with friends, I’ll help you create a ceremony that feels relaxed, personal and genuinely yours.
Why choose a Blue Mountains wedding?
The Blue Mountains has a wonderful way of making a wedding feel memorable without needing to overcomplicate things. You might exchange vows overlooking the valley, celebrate among the trees, or choose one of the region’s beautiful venues as the setting for your ceremony. For me, the location is part of the story — but you are always the most important part of the ceremony. I’ll take the time to get to know you, understand what matters to you as a couple and create a ceremony that reflects your relationship rather than following a formula.
A Sydney celebrant who travels to the mountains
I’m based in Randwick in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, but I’m very happy to travel to the Blue Mountains for your wedding. The journey from Sydney to the mountains is part of the appeal. Once you leave the city behind, the landscape changes and the pace seems to slow down. I enjoy bringing that relaxed feeling into the ceremonies I conduct. Your wedding doesn’t have to feel like a performance. It can simply be a wonderful moment shared with the people who matter most to you.
Blue Mountains wedding locations
One of the great things about the region is the variety of settings available. You could choose a well-established wedding venue with everything organised for you, or keep things much simpler with a small ceremony surrounded by nature. Popular areas to explore include:
- Leura — beautiful gardens, village charm and peaceful mountain surroundings
- Katoomba — dramatic escarpments and some of the region’s best-known views
- Wentworth Falls — spectacular scenery and a wonderful natural backdrop
- Megalong Valley — open countryside, vineyards and sandstone landscapes
- Medlow Bath — heritage surroundings and elegant accommodation
There are also smaller and quieter locations that can work beautifully for intimate ceremonies. The right setting depends on the kind of wedding you’re planning and, most importantly, what feels right for you.

A wedding ceremony that’s about you
I don’t believe your ceremony should sound like everyone else’s. Some couples want something light and relaxed, with plenty of laughter. Others prefer a more heartfelt ceremony with a little more tradition. Some want to share their whole story. Others would rather keep things simple and concentrate on the promises they’re making to each other. There’s no right or wrong way to do it. We’ll work together to create a ceremony that sounds natural when you hear it spoken, feels comfortable for you and your guests, and reflects the relationship you’re celebrating. Your ceremony might include your story, favourite memories, readings, music, personal vows, cultural traditions or simply a few words that have special meaning for you.
Blue Mountains elopements and intimate weddings
The Blue Mountains is a beautiful choice if you don’t want a large, traditional wedding. If it’s just the two of you, you might choose a quiet ceremony followed by photographs and a special meal. With a small group of family or friends, you can create something equally meaningful without the formality or scale of a big wedding. I particularly enjoy these intimate celebrations because they allow the focus to stay on what matters most — the two of you and the commitment you’re making to each other.
Keeping your ceremony relaxed
A mountain wedding needs a little practical thought. Weather can change quickly, and some beautiful locations involve uneven ground, steps or limited access. As we plan your ceremony, we’ll consider things such as:
- the best time of day for your ceremony
- the comfort and mobility of your guests
- access and parking
- possible weather alternatives
- photography locations
- how the ceremony fits naturally into the rest of your wedding day.
The aim isn’t to make things complicated. It’s simply about thinking through the details beforehand so that, when your wedding day arrives, you can relax and enjoy yourselves.
What I do as your celebrant
From our first conversation through to your wedding day, I’ll guide you through the ceremony process. I’ll help you understand the legal requirements, decide what you would like included, develop your ceremony and make sure everything is prepared for the day. I’ll also liaise with your venue or other wedding professionals when appropriate so that everyone understands how the ceremony is going to work. On the day itself, my role is to help you feel comfortable and confident. I want your guests to feel involved, your ceremony to flow naturally and, most importantly, for you to be able to enjoy the moment.
